Share a Tip Policy – Cicero Insight Journalists (CIJ)

Effective Date: 1 January 2026

At Cicero Insight Journalists, we rely on the public and fellow journalists to alert us to incidents that may warrant deeper investigation. If you believe something is happening behind the scenes that affects the public interest—from misuse of power, conflicts of interest, or systemic failures to hidden risks for people, the environment, or public funds—we want to hear from you.

This page is your way to inform our editorial team about issues that Cicero Insight reporters should investigate. Your information can be the starting point of a story that others are not able or willing to pursue. We handle all incoming information in line with Belgian‑law guarantees on journalistic sources, EU‑wide protections for whistleblowers, and the European Media Freedom Act, which strengthens the security and independence of media work across the EU.

When to contact us

Please reach out if you have information about:

Suspected corruption, abuse of office, or conflicts of interest in politics, business, or public institutions.

Systemic failures or regulatory gaps that put people, the environment, or public funds at risk.

Unusual patterns in public spending, contracts, or procurement that look suspicious.

Cases of retaliation, censorship, or attempts to cover up wrongdoing.

Any other situation where greater transparency is needed and the public has a clear right to know.

We are especially interested in leads that are specific, well‑documented, and show a clear public‑interest angle.

How to send your tip

To help us assess your tip efficiently, please include:

A clear description of what happened, when and where it took place, and who was involved.

Any documents, messages, emails, screenshots, or other evidence you can share.

Links to relevant websites, social‑media posts, or public records.

Information about possible witnesses or additional sources.

If you prefer, you can also share your tip anonymously or partly anonymised. We will respect your wishes and, unless you explicitly agree otherwise, will not publish your name or contact details. Any information you provide will be treated in accordance with Belgian data‑protection rules and the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

How we handle your information

Every tip is reviewed by our editorial team. If your case looks promising, an investigative journalist or editor may contact you to clarify details, to ask for further evidence, or to discuss how best to proceed. Because we work on in‑depth investigations, it may take days, weeks, or longer before we can respond or publish anything.

We handle all information securely and, where possible, through encrypted channels. We operate under Belgian‑law protections for journalistic sources, which limit the circumstances under which authorities can compel journalists to disclose their sources or related material. We also respect the rights of whistleblowers under EU‑law and the Belgian Whistleblower Act, which sets conditions for protected reporting and prohibits retaliation against those who report in good faith.
