Terms of Service – Cicero Insight Journalists (CIJ)
Effective Date: 1 January 2026
1. Acceptance of Terms
By ticking the acceptance box, creating an account, paying for a subscription, or otherwise using the Site, you agree to these Terms.
2. Changes to the Terms
We may amend these Terms at any time. Revised Terms will be posted on the Site with the date of the latest revision. Continued use of the Site after such posting constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms. For material changes, we will provide a clear notice (e.g., banner or email) at least 30 days before they take effect. If you do not agree with the revised Terms, you must stop using the Site and cancel any active subscription.
3. Eligibility
By using the Site, you confirm that you are at least 16 years old (or the applicable age of digital consent in your Member State), and that you have the legal capacity to enter into these Terms.
4. Services Provided
The Site provides, among other things, news articles, think‑tank analysis, opinion pieces, multimedia content, newsletters, subscription‑based services, and comment forums, all of which are described on the Site and subject to technical and editorial availability.
5. Account Registration
Creation: You must provide accurate, complete, and up‑to‑date information and may be required to verify your identity via email or other means. You are responsible for safeguarding your login credentials and must notify us immediately at office@cicero-insight.com if you suspect unauthorized access.
Termination: We may suspend or terminate accounts that breach these Terms, violate applicable law, or are inactive for more than 12 months.
6. User‑Generated Content
License: You grant us a worldwide, royalty‑free, non‑exclusive, sub‑licensable licence to reproduce, distribute, display, and adapt your User Content for the purpose of operating, promoting, and improving the Site and related services.
Responsibility: You further warrant that your User Content does not contain malware, viruses, or other harmful code.
Removal: We reserve the right to remove any User Content that breaches these warranties or is deemed inappropriate, without prior notice.
7. Intellectual Property
You may share limited portions of our content for non‑commercial, personal use, provided you credit Cicero Insight Journalists and link back to the relevant page on the Site, unless otherwise permitted in these Terms or under a separate licence.
8. Payments & Subscriptions (if applicable)
Pricing: Prices are displayed in euros (€) and include applicable VAT unless otherwise stated.
Billing: Subscriptions are billed in advance on a recurring basis (monthly/annual). You may cancel anytime; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.
Refunds: Under the EU Consumer Rights Directive, you have a 14‑day right of withdrawal for digital services purchased online, provided the service has not yet been fully performed. If you explicitly consent to early performance, the right of withdrawal ends as soon as the service starts.
9. Right of Withdrawal (Consumer‑Specific)
If you are a consumer, you may withdraw from the contract within 14 days without giving any reason, unless the service has been fully performed with your explicit consent. To exercise this right, submit a written withdrawal using the model withdrawal form attached to the purchase confirmation or via office@cicero-insight.com
10. Disclaimer of Warranties
The Site is provided “as is” and “as available”. We make no representations or warranties of any kind, express or implied, regarding:
Accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of the content;
Availability or uninterrupted operation of the Site;
Compatibility with any particular device or software.
We do not warrant that the Site or its content is suitable for your particular purpose or that defects will be corrected.
11. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Cicero Insight (CIJ) Journalists shall not be liable for:
Direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Site;
Loss of data, revenue, profits, or goodwill;
Any claim arising out of third‑party content or services linked from the Site: the total aggregate liability of CIJ for any claim shall not exceed the amount you paid (if any) for the specific service that gave rise to the claim during the twelve (12) months preceding the incident.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by gross negligence or willful misconduct, or for any other liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law.
12. Governing Law & Jurisdiction
These Terms are governed by the laws of Belgium. Any disputes shall be resolved by the courts of Brussels, unless mandatory consumer‑protection provisions give you the right to bring proceedings in your own Member State.
13. Dispute Resolution & Alternative Procedures
Consumers may use the European Commission’s Online Dispute Resolution platform https://consumer-redress.ec.europa.eu/index_en for cross‑border complaints. We are not obligated to participate in arbitration unless expressly agreed in a separate written contract. If you are a consumer, you may also lodge a complaint with the competent data‑protection authority or consumer‑protection body in your Member State.
14. Privacy
Your personal data is processed in accordance with our Privacy Policy, which incorporates the requirements of the GDPR. By using the Site you consent to such processing as described therein. You may withdraw consent to marketing communications at any time and are entitled to exercise your rights under the GDPR, including access, rectification, and erasure, by contacting us as set out in our Privacy Policy.
15. Third‑Party Links & Services
The Site may contain links to external websites or services that are not under our control. We do not endorse or assume responsibility for the content, privacy practices, or legality of those third parties. We do not control or endorse the privacy practices of third‑party sites and encourage you to review their privacy notices before using them.
16. Severability
If any provision is found invalid or unenforceable, the parties intend that the remaining provisions remain in full force and that the invalid provision be replaced by a valid one that comes closest to the original intent.
